Collaboration... It's Catchy!
The Northeast Juvenile Firesetting Conference was formed on the premise that only through regional, collaborative efforts between individuals and agencies representing all the fields impacted by firesetting, is there a chance to effectively intervene in this serious behavioral epidemic. In a tradition of interdisciplinary partnership, this 3rd annual conference is hosted jointly by Brandon, the Department of Fire Services, MA Property Insurance Underwriting Association and MA Association of Safety and Fire Educators (MA SAFE).
Why This Theme?
This year's theme, The Kids Behind the Crisis: From Confusion to Clarity, draws attendees toward a clearer understanding of the children at the center of the public safety issue of firesetting. Thursday's pre-conference institutes will teach skills in assessing, interviewing, and interrogating children who have set fires. Friday's workshops will focus not only assessment, interviewing and interrogation, but also on evaluation and research. All sessions are suitable for professionals in fire service, juvenile justice, burn hospitals, mental health, social services, public schools and insurance fields. We hope you'll join us!
Why This Conference?
As the Northeast Juvenile Firesetting Conference embarks on its third year, we are pleased to have grown in scope and attendance to become the premier conference in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to Juvenile Firesetting. This year's presenters hail from Canada, Maine, Oregon, Colorado, New York, Rhode Island, Florida and Massachusetts. Each is an expert in his or her field and committed to advancing firesetting intervention nationally.
In This Economy?
In today's economic environment, training dollars and program budgets are tight while the needs of the population we serve and the public safety concern at hand have not diminished. In fact, in the evolving field of Juvenile Firesetting intervention, the need for professional education in new research, and best practice methods is growing.
For these reasons, The 2009 Northeast Juvenile Firesetting Conference:
- Expanded to two days for the same cost as a single day.
- Offers a half day, Pre-Conference Institute on May 14th comprised of 3 hour, skill-building workshops at no cost, if you register by 4/1.
- Hosts a full day of speakers, workshops and information-sharing opportunities on Friday, May 15th.
